The impact of the use of social networking sites on the
social and family values of Arab youth

Abstract
The study aimed
to investigate the motives of the use of Arab youth to social networking sites,
and to identify the impact of use of the social networking sites on their social
and family values . This study belongs to Descriptive studies. The survey
methodology was used to achieve the goal of study. 300 young people in the
three Arab countries (Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Egypt) were selected as the study
sample by using the method of the
available sample . Data was collected via online a questionnaire which covered
the objectives of the study.
The study found
several of results, including :

Rise in average
of using social networking sites by the respondents; where half of the sample of respondents were
using networking sites by 4 hours or more a day
-
The Facebook
site came in first place in terms of the degree of the Arab youth use of social
networking sites, then YouTube and Twitter.

The Instrumental
Motives of the use social networking
sites came at a higher rate than the Ritualized Motives among Arab youth .
-
the use of
social networking sites a positive impact on the values of cultural
communication, the values of social relations, and social
cooperation and participation values, then the values of self-esteem while
The least impact was on the values of religious .

There was a
relationship between some of the motives of use and the nationality of the
respondents .

There were
differences in the impact of the use of social networking sites on the values
(social cooperation and participation, self-esteem, and social relations) among
Arab youth belonging to the difference in educational levels and There were
differences in the impact of the use of social networking sites on the values (tolerance
and religious) among Arab youth belonging to the difference in the nationality
of the respondents. In contrast, there were no differences in the impact of the
use of social networking sites on the social and family values among Arab youth
belonging to the difference in gender.
